iLEANA ALkiSTIS gIANNAKOURA

It took me two years before I met illeana in person. She was famous among her greek friends for her talent in fashion and for her strenght as a person. While I was working at CHLOE (three montH placement) in Paris, one day I went to Comme des Garcons boutiQue (which was in the same courtyard) and Illeana was there. She recognised me and we started talking. One day I recieved an email by her asking me to give my I opinion on a personal matter and since then we became closer through the net. When "Un nouVeau iDEAL" was launched, a year later, iLeana Wrote one of the first comments on the Blog. Today I am presenting you a collection of illustRAtions that she did entitled CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE. IN her own words she makes clear to us: "the phrase i gave you explaining C.D. apart from that i must admit that i am going through a difficult time with many questions on creation and commerciality but i stil remain loyal to the idea that nothing in this word has been discovered because of the possible but rather the impossible possibility of existing........". In 2003 she won first prize for her collection at "Ceramiche Fiora A Caltagirone" and also the same year, 2nd prize aT "DAZED&CONFUZED" magazine's "RE:CREATION" competition. In March 2004 she was hired by GASPARD YURKIEVICH for a month's placement. The thing that makes iLLEANA iDEAL to me it's not only the great resume that she has but also her low profile and POLITE manners. At the moment Illeana works for Comme des Garcons in Paris. She has been with the creative team of Mme Rei Kawakubo since May 2005.

Yes, this is my first day on the island of Venus

Dear iDEALS, I woke up pretty late today, since the jetlag and late departure last night kept me hyperactive. My brother Thoi is working on a very big project from home so it was the great chance for us brothers to have a conversation on various personal matters. I guess this is not important for you to know...Anyway at 18:00 I went for a drive and ended up at "FLEXY"(0035799 488516), the fabulous boutique owened by my close friend Maria StrongThere you can find the collections from some of the greatest Cyprus born Designers: Erotokritos (the Parisians know him pretty well-RUE VIELLE DU TEMPLE, opposite the Picasso Museum 75004), Christina P.(worked for Mischiko Koschino and Chanel), Joanna Louka accessories, bags, scarfs...,Elena Pavlou (the designer I bought my first "design" piece when I was 15 years old..When I went out for a fag, friend/hairstylist Angelinos popped in dressed to kill.Dior Homme Trench, Comme Des Garcons wallet and shoes, Anne Demeuleemester pants, House of Warris ring, Prada sunglasses..."Strong" gave me the phonenumber of ultra artist MARIA LOIZIDOU and I called to ask whether she would be interested for an "asap" presentation to "Un nOuveau iDEAL". Loizidou said YES! Another Maria Kamberi( Maria number three/my friend from highschool/flemenco dancer-tutor) called me wanting to meet me desperately. Her two year old son is a ginger haired angel. She was invited to a school play. One of her students had a leading role so Maria had to be there and give her support. She wore this plitted Valentino skirt , a BLAAK cape, red tights and shoes by Narciso Rodriguez and a mouse gray envelope vintage bag (I chose everything for her). The play was directed in all the ways by artist Andonopoulos (who's first name I cannot recall).I remembered his face immidiately when I saw him standing at the door, welcoming the parents and guests. Last time I saw him was 12 years ago.I am leaving you with the statue of Archebishop Makarios, the president of Cyprus in 1970's. He died in 1977, the year I was born. The building you see herewas his residence. On day hours, one can visit it as a museum. One of the greatest locations I have seen and a place that would make photographers like Steven Meisel burst into tears. Especially if you see Makarios' bedroom and studyroom.

the GREAT escape

Dear iDEALS, it was Monday afternnooon when I decided to visit Cuprus. I was feeling that I had given my 100% of power lately to everything I was involved with. Anyways, I booked my ticket for Wednesday at 18:50 with Olymbic airlines (huge mistake). So I am sitting outsite the building where my appartment is, waiting for Maria and George to pick me up with the taxi they hired. The three of us were travelling towards the same destination but only them chose to fly with Cyprus Airways. B4 the Taxi came, while sitting on the stairs outsite I saw them coming: KATIA ZIGOULI, Sophia Chrisochoidou and Esther M.....Three gorgeous women walking together. I called their names and they all smiled and came where I was standing. Esther made comments on my perfume (which is a 1950's love oil mixed with Shisheido's Feminite Du Bois Bodycream). The taxi came and my suitcases wouldn't fit in so we had to put one on the back seat, between myself and Maria. When I arrived at the airport (after I waited one hour and a half for no reason just to check in) I was informed that my flight was cancelled (FUCK YOU OLYMBIC!!!!!FUCK OFFFFFF!!!!!!!) and my ticked would be only valid for another flight 6 hours later. Well, I guess you can imagine how angry I was. I later found out that the flight didn't happen only because the flight attendants didn't show up!!!!!! Nobody informed me,nobody cared about my time, nobody was being polite. I was an asshole sitting and waiting, buying magazines, reading books, calling people up...just because nobody cared to tell me that FUCKING OLYMBIC needs a life!

Pharrell Williams hugs Mia Oeser

Dear iDEALS, while in the car yesterday with my designer friend Mia Oeser and collaborator Kirstin Petersen, we were flipping through CITIZEN K magazine with rapper Pharrell and Catherine Deneuve on the cover. Mia said the magic words: " Oh I know Pharrell, we are friends". I asked whether she had any pictures to prove the fact and here it is...Thanks a million Mia

POLLY DAWSON/ YOU CAN RULE THE WORLD

Dear iDEALS, several months ago, my friend Diane Pernet reported on a young designer named Polly Dawson who just won a prize for her work at IFM in Paris. I wrote an email to Diane asking her to give me Polly's contact details. At the time I was more than desparate to collaborate with a great talent like Polly, for the sake of "FROST", the collection we presented two weeks ago during the Hellenic Fashion week. Anyhow, at fIRST i THOUGHT THAT pOLLY WAS aMERICAN,only to find later that she is English with a great sense of humour (something very rare these days). Don't ask me why because I am sure that you all as well, are convinced for certain things from time2time. It'S weird to discover that your insticts failed. This is what happened with me and miss Dawson. Anyway, one evening I called her up and we talked and talked . I told her how much I admired her work and I was amazed by her coolness. Anyhow, we continued sending emails to each other for some time and this morning I just said to her: YOu know Polly, the world needs to see your work, send me pictures asap!!" and so she did.  I was happily informed that she has just signed a contract with maison JEAN PAUL GAULTIER as junior stylist (which means designer) and Polly thanked me for giving her contacts of people who work in FASHION HOUSES, while she was still looking for a job. I am happy when I see people making it like Polly. YOU DESERVE TO RULE !!!A small sample of her kind words to me: "
I must also say thank you for your help with the contact at Galliano, I never sent my book as I found this job first, but I did call up and speak to them and it was great to know the right names so thank you!"...If you would like to contact Polly , please ask me for her details and I will inform her...Filep

#4th Mr Moustache Party..I was't there but they were

Dear iDEALS as you remember, a couble of weeks ago I shared with you the invite for the 4rth Mr Moustache party in New York. Here is what happened that night. I am sharing with you the images of people that I liked the most. Also in the new issue of V magazine (Kate Moss Cover wearing Ralgf Lauren) there is a report on clubs from all over the world. One of the included is BootsyCall which is based in Athens. The truth is that if I did not see it in "V" I wouldn't know of it's existenz. One more thing that I would like to say about the specific issue is that the image of Nick Cave by Miguel Villaslobos was firstly "published" here at "Un nOUVEAU iDEAL" two months ago, after Miguel sent it to me personally as an appology for taking so long to answer the questions of his interview for "UnI".. i AM saying this just because I would to simply show you that I am trying the best for you.
