TOP MODEL KATOUCHA IS NO LONGER ALIVE

Dear iDEALS, I was shocked to know this morning that former TOP MODEL Katoucha was found dead in Paris. Read more here
Katoucha
was Chistian Lacroix favorite in the late 1980's till mid 90's when she decided to retire. I still remember her last show with him, from a collection of bohemian theme, full of scarfs, huge leather hats and floral kabana trousers, all in the shades of brown and black. I was lucky enough to find the show on YOUTUBE and to discover that there was some africa inlfuence in the collection as well. Perhaps it was the designer's defined answer to Marc Jacob's "GRUNGE" and the fantastic photoshoots featured in magazines such as Harper's Bazaar and Glamour featuring young Kate Moss as lolita and Kirsten McMenamy as the real pygmalion.I think it was David Sims, wasnt it?

V&R say "NO" plus some extra material to refresh your memory

Dear iDEALS, what I like the most this season it the need of the designers to prove that they really have humour. This time humour is not about being na0ive.It's about playing with mother nature, adding some extra hair, extended body parts, abandoning dull colors, adding volume or any other xtraness on the most impossible areas (Prada shoes). From what I have seen so far (F/W 08/09) I really like Ricardo Tichi's work for Givenchy. I wouldn't say NO though to an offered evening dress from the magic hands of V&R. Practically the dutch duo has a nose, like the people who create perfumes. Appart from the craftmenship they have so generously offered during their first years of creation. No one would turn Tilda Swinton as a muse if it weren't them, right? The lady got herself an Oscar the other day and my love for her looks and quality has gone even higher. Let's see what the duo showed yesterday, followed by a brief history of the work.
Now, for those who just found out, here is how they really kicked ass in their stardom. I was one of the lucky to see this exhibition which till today manages to make proud to belong in the same proffession.

Maybe they are not talented in commercial clothes, I don't know really..What I feel certain about is that EVERYBODY wants to have a piece of what they do.

INTRODUCING: KRIS LEWIS

Dear iDEALS, Kris Lewis began dreaming and flailing atop this lovely carnival ride in 1978, in the great surround of the Jersey shore. Growing up in a family that included 7 brothers and 1 sister provided ample fodder for his creative appetite, weaving an existence replete with love, conflict, beauty, tradition and classic Jersey brawls. Kris’ father provided the artistic gene and a glint of inspiration, but it was his mother who taught him the importance of hard work and dedication as he watched her raise an entire family alone after his parents’ separation. As an immigrant who had to flee from communist forces in her home country of Latvia, Kris’ mother also instilled in him a love for his Latvian heritage and its traditions, which are a major influence in Kris’ artwork. Other influences in Kris’ art include Alfonse Bougereau, Andrew Wyeth, Hans Holbein, Albrecht Durer, Hieronymus Bosch, Gustav Klimt, Antonio Mancini, and Jules-Bastien LePage. His reverence for masters of old is apparent in his depiction of the human figure, which he uses as a vector for hidden stories, delicate emotion, and universal truth. His affinity for
people-watching also informs his paintings, collecting glances, gestures, miens and hints and channeling them through the canvas for the viewer to share in the experience. After studying Illustration at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Kris eventually found himself living and working in Los Angeles, where he still resides and has yet to fully explore. His paintings have been featured in galleries in cities around the world, including L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Miami, London, and Hong Kong. His work has also been seen in the publications Juxtapoz and Modern Painters, and featured in the books Copro/Nason: A Catalogue Raisonne and Two Faced: The Changing Face of Portraiture.
Hopefully, Kris will be futured in the upcominng issue of ISTEROGRAFO-FASHION 4.
